Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has taken a swipe at the club's past transfer policy.
Rodgers questioned the lavish spending on flops before he arrived but stopped short of criticising former boss Kenny Dalglish, who green-lighted the vast amounts paid for Andy Carroll, Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson.
"The investment in a small period of time was big for the club," he said.
This was going to be a season of assessing and trying to bring in the players who can fit the model.
"I was also brought in for a reason. It was going to take time.
"The owners are fully aware of that as well. The support from them has been fantastic - they have the helicopter view of the big picture "
