Rodgers satisfied by Liverpool's hard-fought win over Stoke

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was happy with the way his side performed against Stoke City on Saturday.

The Reds edged the Potters 1-0 at Anfield thanks to Glen Johnson's 85th-minute goal, ending a four-game winless streak, and pleasing their boss in the process.

"We have shown wonderful character this week; we should have won our game in the week, and in Europe it is never easy," he told the club's official website, referring to Wednesday's 2-2 draw with Ludogorets Razgrad in the Champions League.

"Today, in the Premier League against a good team, we have kept a clean sheet and won against a team that doesn't concede many goals.

"I was very satisfied and my overriding feeling was that I was delighted for the players because they are a wonderful group to work with."

A proud Rodgers continued: "The players deserve a huge amount of credit for the courage they showed today to keep going, and the resilience and persistence against a good side that have got really good players.

"A hard-fought victory for us, but a well-deserved one, I felt."

The win saw Liverpool edge up the table to 11th position with 17 points from 13 matches which has them five points in arrears of the top four.
