Richards honoured at Man City captaincy but thrilled with Kompany return

Micah Richards admits it was an honour to captain Manchester City last night but is keen to have regular skipper Vincent Kompany back in the side.

The 23-year old right-back took the armband for the Carling Cup semi-final second leg against Liverpool, which ended a 2-2 draw, knocking City out of the competition.

Richards said it was a thrill to lead the side but is now excited about having imposing centre-half Kompany back for after his four-match ban.

"We've got a boost with Vinny coming back and we've got other stuff going on but we'll keep strong and we'll look forward to our next game which is Everton (on January 31) and we'll try and go there and get a win," he told CityTV.

"It was an honour being captain and I'm gutted I couldn't lead us to a final but I'm happy Vinny's coming back and normal service will be resumed."
