REVEALED: Why Mendes taking aim at Man Utd boss LVG (all to do with Ronaldo!)

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has shut down talk of Cristiano Ronaldo returning from Real Madrid. It's been revealed Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, attempted to initiate talks with United - via former chief scout Martin Ferguson - in January about laying the groundwork for bringing CR7 back to Old Trafford in the summer.

Ferguson, the brother of former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, left the club 18 months ago, but remains close to Mendes and has contacts at Carrington.

Spanish journalist Alfredo Duro, speaking on El Chiringuito, revealed Mendes made the proposal to Ferguson last month, which was relayed to Van Gaal. However, the Dutchman's response was a clear negative.

Interestingly, since January, Mendes has not been backward in publicly criticising Van Gaal over the treatment of another of his star clients, Radamel Falcao.
