Jose Mourinho had plans to replace Luke Shaw at Manchester United.
The Manchester Evening News says Mourinho, sacked in December, had three left-backs in mind as potential replacements for Shaw.
Alex Sandro (Juventus), Kieran Tierney (Celtic) and Danny Rose (Tottenham) were all on the club's radar before Shaw's upturn in form.
The 23-year-old is now playing regularly under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and looks unlikely to leave Old Trafford in the near future.
He was named the club's Player of the Month for March.
