Ryan Giggs was key to Manchester United not signing Thiago Alcantara seven years ago.
WalesOnline reports Giggs was instrumental in United not completing a move for Thiago back in 2013.
They claim Wales coach Giggs - assistant to David Moyes at the time - said that the Spaniard didn't have what it takes to play for the club, despite being recommended by Sir Alex Ferguson.
He is quoted as saying: “Playing for this club is more than being a footballer.
“It's about your attitude, it's about your mindset, it's about everything that you want.
“Everything in your body, every cell, has to want to live play and win for Manchester United. I don't think he's a Manchester United player."
The Bayern Munich Champions League winner is now set to sign for Liverpool.
