Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti attempted to sign Kaka for Chelsea while in charge, it has been revealed.
The Daily Star says the Italian took the top job at Stamford Bridge in June 2009 and wanted to bring the Brazilian star with him to west London.
However, the player decided against a switch to the Premier League, and instead joined Real Madrid in a £56m deal.
Ancelotti went on to have a successful first season with Chelsea, guiding the club to a domestic double of the Premier League title and victory in the FA Cup.
Kaka is now playing for Orlando City in MLS.
