Returning LA Galaxy ace Keane determined to get back to winning ways

Robbie Keane will return to the LA Galaxy line-up this weekend but does not expect his presence to have an immediate effect on the team.

The star striker has missed the MLS champions' last two MLS matches because of Republic of Ireland duty but is back for the weekend's meeting with Portland Timbers.

Keane is aware that the Galaxy have produced some poor performances with two heavy league defeats in the form of a 5-0 thumping at New England Revolution and a 3-1 loss to Real Salt Lake, which came after their elimination from the US Open Cup at the hands of the Carolina RailHawks.

But he suggests the team needs a little more than just his return to arrest the negative run especially seeing as key centre-back Omar Gonzalez is away with the USA.

"It's certainly not just down to me" said Keane. "Missing, obviously, Gonzalez off with the US national team as well.

"Hopefully, we can with me back this week and the training the lads have had [during a 10-day break] ... get back to winning ways again, because when you start losing a few games in the spin, it's not good for confidence. So it's important we get back to winning ways as soon as possible."

Keane added: "I didn't see the games, I saw the goals [conceded]. I mean, it's obvious when you concede that many goals, it's certainly something wrong. Clearly, it hasn't been good enough. Just have to get back to basics and try to score more goals than the opposition.

"The good thing about football is there's always another game, isn't there? So we can certainly turn it around in the next weeks, and that's what we'll be hoping to do this week."
