REDS ON THE ROAD: We needed quality after last season - Rodgers

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has said that his squad needed an influx of quality after the disappointment of last season.

After finishing sixth in the Premier League last term, the Reds have acted quickly in the transfer market and have already completed some high-profile signings such as Roberto Firmino, Nathaniel Clyne, Danny Ings, James Milner and most recently, Christian Benteke for £32.5million.

"I think last season was a disappointment for us," said Rodgers in Kuala Lumpur. "We had to ensure we needed to bring in quality because we needed to improve.

"The quality and mentality of the player is important. I have an inherent belief that the players we have brought in will help us push on this season.

"I think I'm firstly very happy with players we have brought in. We had to bring in quality and players with ambition. It is about focusing on players that are here and the players we have brought on.

"We are hopeful we can go on and be competitive this season and challenge on all fronts."
