Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp insists Harry Kane was never close to being sold.
Kane has exploded this season under Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, who came close to signing the striker for Southampton last season.
Redknapp told TMW: "He's a young striker with great qualities. He works hard, so much better with every game, he is an extraordinary player, with great room for improvement.
"I would be happy if he were called up for England, he is an important player and I'm glad he's blossomed so."
On talk of Spurs wanting to sell Kane in the past, Redknapp denies the claims.
"I think Tottenham have always rated him, I do not think they wanted to sell him. They watched each game, when he was on loan, then they realized that he was ready and they kept him in the squad."
