Red-faced Wanyama apologises to Southampton supporters

Victor Wanyama has said sorry to Southampton's fans following his red card on Saturday.

The Kenyan midfielder was sent off after picking up a second yellow card for a poor tackle on Alexander Tettey in the 73rd minute of his side's 1-0 defeat to Norwich City at Carrow Road.

The one-man disadvantage essentially cost Southampton the match as the score was 0-0 when Wanyama left the pitch and he has since expressed his regret to the Saints faithful.

"I would just like to apologise to the manager, fans and everyone at the club for my red card yesterday," said Wanyama.

"It was reckless and irresponsible and I should have used my experience to have not let it happen, especially when I was on a yellow card.

"I now just want to focus on getting back on the pitch and helping the team as much as I can."

The defeat left the south coast club in 13th position having saluted just once in their past eight league outings.
