Real Sociedad into fourth place after victory over Eibar

Real Sociedad are into fourth place on the LaLiga table after Tuesday night's 2-1 defeat of Eibar.

The match, rescheduled because of a tyre fire in the area in February, was played behind closed doors at Ipurua due to the threat of coronavirus.

All games in Spain will be played with no fans in the stadium for the next two matchdays.

La Real took the lead when Mikel Oyarzabal netted from the penalty spot after 16 minutes before the hosts had the chance to level from 12 yards too.

Igor Zubeldia was penalised for handball inside the box, but Fabian Orellana's resulting spot-kick was saved by Alex Remiro.

The visitors punished Eibar's mistake during the second half, doubling their lead when Willian Jose slotted the ball through Marko Dmitrovic's legs.

Eibar were given another penalty in the latter stages of the game, with Charles Dias making sure to find the back of the net this time.

Nevertheless, it was too little too late for Jose Luis Mendilibar's side as they stay in 16th place, two points above the relegation zone.

Real Sociedad, meanwhile, are up to fourth on goals scored above Getafe.
