Real Salt Lake have progressed to the MLS Cup final, overcoming Chicago Fire 5-4 on penalties following a scoreless regular time and extra time.
The Royals will meet LA Galaxy in the final on November 22 at Qwest Field in Seattle after holding their nerve in the shootout where goalkeeper Nick Rimando made three saves.
Substitute Ned Grabavoy netted the penalty that put Salt Lake into the final, cruelly ending the Fire's chances in the conference final for the third successive year.
LA Galaxy booked their place in the final with a 2-0 win over the Houston Dynamo on Friday.
