Real Salt Lake have been dealt a major blow ahead of the 2015 MLS season.
The Utah club confirmed on Monday that star forward Joao Plata suffered a fracture in his foot which is set to sideline him for as many as four months.
22-year old Ecuador international Plata sustained the break in his fifth metatarsal during RSL's first training session of pre-season in Arizona and will now undergo surgery.
Plata, who has netted 17 goals over two seasons for RSL, will miss at least three months of action with the worst case comeback being at the end of May.
