Real Madrid's Ramos admits midfield role was surprise

Sergio Ramos admits Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti sprung a surprise playing him in midfield in defeat at Barcelona.

Ancelotti was criticised for the decision.

Ramos said: "It's a position that I've always liked, I felt comfortable, but with having a yellow in this extreme game and a quadriceps injury the coach decided to replace me. There wasn't much time to practise and I adapt to what the coach asks."

He also remarked: "There were two clear penalties, a handball in the first half and the one on Cristiano in the second. Real Madrid fans can feel proud because the team stood their ground until the end. I'm also proud of what my teammates did. It's been a while since we've seen Barcelona struggle, wasting time at the end. We did what had to be done."
