Real Madrid urge Liverpool, Chelsea to bid for Van der Vaart

Real Madrid are keen for Chelsea and Liverpool to bid for Rafael van der Vaart. Marca says the Spanish giants will try to tempt Liverpool and Chelsea into a move for Van der Vaart before the summer market shuts.

Real Madrid are ready to hawk their cast-offs to English suitors after building a squad Jose Mourinho believes can compete for La Liga and the Champions League this summer.

Van der Vaart wants to stay and fight for his place - a decision welcomed by Mourinho - but Madrid general manager Jorge Valdano has other ideas.

Roy Hodgson is understood to be keen, but does not have a big budget to spend at Anfield, while links to Chelsea have gone cold and a return to Germany may be more likely for the former Hamburg player.
