The additional year is a player option, which means it's up to Mbappe whether he wants to activate it or not. As it stands, Mbappe is about to enter the final year of his PSG contract. He was in a similar position last year before PSG convinced him to extend.

If Mbappe doesn't activate the extra year, he can sign a pre-contract with a club outside France in January.

Bayern Munich wing-back Alphonso Davies is another Real Madrid is looking for at left-back. Davies has a contract until 2025.
