Real Madrid midfielder Kroos: They said it was the end of this team's cycle in 2019

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos insists they will recover from last night's defeat at Manchester City.

Real are reeling after a 4-0 Champions League semifinal defeat.

Kroos said, "We started badly. I said a week ago that we started quite passive and today we have continued the same. They have positioned themselves differently. They had more players between the lines and our possessions have not gone well. In the first 20-25 minutes they have been much better. Then with 2-0 it is very difficult to come back. The truth is that it has been difficult for us to create a lot.

"There are still some games to go, but knowing that we cannot win the League, there is little more to say. Winning the League is now important. I can't say that we had a bad Champions League season, but today we didn't deserve to qualify for the final. We will come back.

"The club expects the most from us, but it is not normal to win the Champions League every year. We competed very well this season and we were one game away from the final. I don't like to say that we have made a bad Champions League.

"This defeat teaches us to value what we have achieved before, for me it was crazy. The last time I heard that it was the end of the cycle for this group was in 2019."
