Real Madrid general manager Jorge Valdano has defended the decision to sell Arjen Robben to Bayern Munich.

The Dutchman helped Bayern into the Champions League semifinals last week with a stunning volley against Manchester United.

"Robben? We cannot have 25 superstars," said Valdano. "He was only playing for half-an-hour when here. It was he who wanted to leave.

"We have decided to try to rejuvenate the squad."
