Real Madrid are anxious about tying Sergio Ramos to a new contract to ward off interest from Chelsea.
Sport says Ramos' brother and agent, Rene, angered Real management during the summer when presenting them with an offer from Chelsea during talks over a new contract.
The negotiations collapsed at the time, but Real have made it known to Ramos that they want to extend his current deal, which runs to 2013.
The defender is currently on £3.5 million-a-year and is seeking a pay-rise to £5 million-a-year.
Chelsea were said to be willing to DOUBLE Ramos' wages to bring him to London. The World Cup winner is understood to be a favourite of Blues owner Roman Abramovich.
