Real Madrid defender Rudiger talks Werner showdown, Kroos contract and Vini Jr Ballon d'Or chances

Real Madrid defender Toni Rudiger is looking forward to a first game against RB Leipzig.

Rudiger admits he's never before played their Champions League opponents - which will include former Chelsea teammate Timo Werner.

He said, “I've had no previous contact with Leipzig, but we're going to talk after the game. They're a side who play at high intensity, with very promising young players and a great attacking player in Timo Werner. I know how good he is and I hope he shows his quality in the World Cup and not tomorrow.

“I'm surprised how quickly I've adapted. I've been helped by (Toni) Kroos and (David) Alaba. I'm really happy here. As I said at my presentation, I'll always give 100% for this club. Up to now, I'm satisfied with my performance and looking forward to the World Cup. I don't have to play in every game because we have a great team, with a lot of quality. I feel good and happy."

On Toni Kroos' contract renewal, Rudiger continued: “He's a Real Madrid legend. He's highly respected at the club and in the team. He'll decide (what he does) in the end, but he knows how much he means to everyone and I hope he keeps playing. I've played with him for the national team in several games and he's a player who can turn a game. We're going to miss him at the World Cup."

The German was also asked for his impressions on young teammate Vinicius Junior.

“He's like a younger brother to me. He helps me to speak Spanish, we understand each other even though we don't speak the same language. He's a player with great potential and he's showing that in every game. I'm sure could win the Ballon d'Or in the future."
