Real Madrid captain Ramos denies frustration after Spain cameo role

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos insists he's happy to play when needed for Spain.

Luis Enrique opted to leave Ramos on the bench for Spain's match against Kosovo in World Cup qualification on Wednesday night, with La Roja's captain only coming on as a substitute in the 86th minute.

"I'm doing very well, little by little I've found my rhythm after a big knee injury," Ramos said after the 3-1 win.

"The coach [Luis Enrique] was clear. Everything that happens with me is taken out of context; the reality is one [thing] and that's what the coach said.

"I'm just another player and when I play as a starter I'll be as happy as I am today."

Some have questioned whether Ramos' cameos off the bench have been a measure of getting his international appearance numbers as high as possible, but the 35-year-old is just happy to be out on the pitch in a Spain shirt.

"The important thing was to play and to contribute something and achieve the objective that, after that draw [against Greece], it was important to win on the road to the World Cup.

"It's always important to add a minute or the whole game - that depends on the coach."

Ramos' contract at Real Madrid comes to an end on June 30 and there is not yet any news on a possible renewal.

"I was clear about my future the last time I spoke," he said.

"Now I'm focused on getting back to my team, because in a week's time we're playing for the season [with key games against Liverpool and Barcelona].

"Hopefully we'll get some good results; they'll be good games for football fans and we hope to give our best."
