Real Betis exit clears path for former Sochaux defender to join Toronto FC

Damien Perquis has edged closer to a potential move to Toronto FC after it was confirmed he was released by Real Betis today.

The 30-year old French-born Polish defender has departed the Spanish club after spending two-and-a-half years in Seville and has already been linked with a winter shift to MLS.

12-time Poland international Perquis spent most of his career in France with such the likes of Troyes, Saint-Etienne and Sochaux but could quite possible continue his career in Canada, especially after recent comments from TFC head coach Greg Vanney.

"We've watched him and I've played against him," said Vanney, who was with Bastia when he took on Perquis during his time at Troyes, to the Toronto Sun.

"He's a guy we've kept interest in and have watched him progress while he has been there. But we've put out interest in a number of players.

"There's still a long process that needs to go on for that to be finalized."
