Rankin pens new Dundee Utd contract

Dundee United has secured John Rankin to a new deal.

The 30-year old midfielder has signed a two-year contract extension which will keep at Tannadice Park until May 2016.

Rankin, who originally joined the Tangerines from Hibernian in May 2011, was delighted to commit himself to the Taysiders after becoming a key contributor over the past few years.

"The last three seasons have been the most enjoyable period of my career and I see the potential here right now and I want to be a part of that," he told the club's official website.

"The supporters are so encouraging and whilst that is important for the youngsters at the club it is also nice for us more experienced players.

"There is a positive vibe around Tannadice and we can achieve things in the near future here. We have shown progress over my time here and I think we are now ready to go to the next level."

Since arriving at United, former Manchester United youth Rankin has made close to 120 appearances for the Terrors.
