Rangers are chasing Manchester United fullback Danny Simpson.

The People says Gers boss Walter Smith sent top scout Ewan Chester to watch versatile Simpson in action for United's reserves last week and he could ask old pal Sir Alex Ferguson to take him on loan for the rest of the season.

Simpson, who is best at right-back, has recently made his United first-team debut but Ferguson is keeping him in the reserves - and even may be bringing back Gary Neville ahead of him.

United sent Simpson to Sunderland to continue his education last season and they may consider letting him go to Glasgow as the next step.
