Former Rangers manager Walter Smith has implored incumbent boss Ally McCoist not to sell star striker Nikica Jelavic.
The Croatian international is attracting plenty of interest from clubs in England with the reigning champions likely to receive a number of considerable offers in January.
But Smith has urged 'Gers to do all they can to hold onto Jelavic if they want to win a fourth straight Scottish title.
"We didn't want to lose Kenny and it was a big disappointment to us when he went.
"But we felt we had cover with Jelavic and others like Steven Naismith and Kyle Lafferty who could come in.
"I don't think Rangers are in that position now.
"I think it will be very difficult for Rangers to go on and win a championship if they lose Jelavic.
"This time of the year speculation increases and Jelavic is the one hit with the most speculation.
"Listen, he's a good player and he would do well wherever he goes.
"But from a Rangers point of view, I obviously wouldn't want him to go.""Previously we lost players like Kenny Miller in January but I don't think Rangers are in a position where they can afford to lose Jelavic in January," he said.
