Ramsey has to step up from coach to manager - ex-QPR boss Warnock

Ex-QPR boss Neil Warnock believes that the current manager Chris Ramsey will need to make the step up from coaching to management if he wants to be successful at Loftus Road.

Ramsey was offered a three-year contract at QPR despite failing to avoid relegation to the Championship but if the west London club wants to succeed in England's second tier, the 53-year old requires a more extensive knowledge of how to manage a squad of players rather than simply coaching them.

Warnock told the Daily Mail: "He's (Chris) got to learn about management now.

"He's an excellent coach - one of the best around - but now he's a No 1 and that's a completely different kettle of fish.

"Chris has got to decide on his own formation and his own players now. You toughen up as you go along in management and you learn a hell of a lot, believe me.

"You make mistakes as a manager but you have to try and make as few as possible, and that's what Chris has got to do from now on."
