Real Madrid players were expecting Sergio Ramos to be dropped last night for their dramatic win over Champions League opponents Manchester City.
Ramos spoke out after defeat at Sevilla on Saturday, claiming "all had a responsibility", which did not impress coach Jose Mourinho, says El Confidencial.
The defender was fit for last night's game, but was forced to take a seat in the stands after Mourinho swung the axe. After Iker Casillas and Cristiano Ronaldo suffered similar punishments, the axing was no surprise to the dressing room.
Raphael Varane's encouraging performance will heap more pressure on Ramos, with a recall for this weekend now no guarantee.
