QPR are ready to hand Joey Barton an improved contract.
The People says the midfield firebrand, 31, is in the final year of his contract, but Rangers owner Tony Fernandes has opened talks to make him stay.
And Barton could sign soon for an extra season or two - with his wages going up to £75,000 a week.
It is a remarkable turnaround for Barton who seemed to have played his last game for QPR when they nearly went down and he was sent off in disgrace at Manchester City two years ago.
