QPR veteran Derry: Taarabt risks blowing his career

QPR veteran Shaun Derry has warned Adel Taarabt he risks blowing his career.

Derry believes Taraabt is the most gifted player he has ever played alongside but says the 22-year-old's mental application is preventing him from maximising his ability.

"Adel has to realise he is going to be the maker of his own destiny and until that clicks into place, you will always have question marks about him," Derry told the London Evening Standard.

"He has had every opportunity and every type of advice given to him and he has got more ability than anyone I've ever played with, but there is a flaw within his make-up that suggests he isn't fulfilling his potential. There were times last year when we played with 10 men either because he threw a strop or decided he didn't want to play. But when he is on form, he is like two men because it takes two to stop him.

"January is a crazy month. Whether it is PSG or another team who decide they want Adel, it's whether that type of deal appeals to the club. All I'd like, whether he is here or not, is to see him fulfil his potential. I would just like to read in five or six years' time that he has achieved his potential.

"He needs to play at one of the top European clubs. I think he has got the technical ability but my question would be does his mindset enable his ability to shine?"
