QPR target Defoe upset Toronto denied him Premier League return

Toronto FC striker Jermain Defoe was blocked from returning to the Premier League yesterday.

The Telegraph says Leicester City and Queens Park Rangers failed in bids to sign Defoe, despite the fact the striker had flown back to England in the hope of completing a transfer deadline move.

Arsenal passed up the chance to sign Defoe early on Monday after the former Tottenham star was offered to manager Arsene Wenger.

Just six months into the four-year £90,000-a-week Toronto contract he signed in February, Defoe is believed to be concerned that he made a mistake by moving to Canada and that the standard of football is not as good as he had hoped.

But Toronto eventually pulled the plug on a move back to England, leaving 31-year-old Defoe facing the prospect of having to return to Major League Soccer and hoping QPR or Leicester renew their interest in January.
