QPR's Warnock hits out after Barton ban stands

QPR manager Neil Warnock has lashed out at the Independent Regulatory Committee regarding captain Joey Barton's three-match ban.

The R's midfielder was shown a straight red card for an alleged headbutt on Bradley Johnson in the West London club's 2-1 loss to Norwich City at Loftus Road on Monday and has since had an appeal dismissed.

On social networking site Twitter, Barton has stressed his frustration at the decision and has mentioned a similar incident involving Fulham's Clint Dempsey and Liverpool's Craig Bellamy late last year which Warnock also feels should have been cited.

"I'm not surprised by it. It is difficult to accept when you see what Dempsey did in comparison with Joey Barton, it's farcical isn't it," said Warnock. "For me, I think this is the worst case I've ever seen.

"Whenever you see something happen on the field of play that warrants a red card, if the linesman sees that offence every time that linesman stands still and flags and flags and flags until the referee goes towards him, tells him what he's seen and the lad's sent off.

"This linesman carried on and on and on and would not have stopped if Joey Barton had got the ball, gone past a few people and whacked it in the far post. We would have been 2-0 up.

"I find it absolutely impossible. I know they've got to look after themselves. I feel really let down as a manager, as a club that three invisible people can look at that incident and not look at the linesman and take into consideration. If he did see what he saw why did he not flag immediately and keep his flag up?

"When you get people like Graham Poll, not my biggest fan, supporting what I'm saying and people like Dermot Gallagher and the three people on the commission go against that, I just think it's scandalous.

"But I'm not surprised. There's not even a report from the linesman who's seen this alleged offence that goes into the commission. All there is are two lines from the referee saying his linesman told him he put his head forward. It's just absolutely farcical I think. I'm so disgusted by it."
