QPR's Hoilett thanks Hughes but insists he is out to get Stoke

Junior Hoilett will not be letting sentiment get the better of him when QPR meet Stoke City this weekend.

The 24-year old Canadian winger was given his first chance in English football by current Potters boss Mark Hughes when the pair were together at Blackburn Rovers but says that will not fall in the way on Saturday.

The R's take on former Loftus Road boss Hughes and Stoke and although Hoilett admits he owes the Welshman a lot, he won't be taking a backwards step when he crosses the white line in west London.

"Mark Hughes is a terrific manager and has been one of the major influences on my development. At the age of 16 when I couldn't get my work permit, he gave me the confidence to train with Blackburn in the first team," said Hoilett.

"He was there when I first moved over to Germany (on loan with Paderborn in 2007). He gave me the confidence as a player to express myself on the pitch.

"He believed in me and saw something in me to have me train with the first team at such a young age. It was good for my development to have a manager like that giving his backing.

"And when he went to QPR it was great to work under him again. But of course we want to win on Saturday and I'll be doing everything I can to make that happen."
