QPR move to beat Aston Villa to signing of Swindon ace Luongo

QPR are hoping to swoop for Swindon Town midfielder Massimo Luongo.

According to the Daily Mail, the relegated R's are looking to beat Aston Villa to the signature of the Australian international who, along with teammate Ben Gladwin, was the subject of an offer on Monday.

It has been reported that Villa offered £3.5million for the Robins pair but that QPR are set to match that initial proposal.

Swindon chairman Lee Power expects Luongo, who was Player of the Tournament at Australia's successful Asian Cup campaign in January, to be sold this summer.

"There are a numbers of offers for Massimo. That's not surprising because he's been a star for us this year," he said.

"Something could happen this week - we have three substantial offers in from Premier League clubs and we need to sit down with Massimo and his advisors and decide what to do."
