QPR, Leicester target Defoe set to stay with Toronto

Jermain Defoe is likely to remain with MLS club Toronto FC according to general manager Tim Bezbatchenko.

The veteran English striker, who joined the Canadian side from Tottenham in February this year, has been linked with a possible return to the Premier League with QPR and Leicester City showing interest.

However, Bezbatchenko confirmed on Thursday that 32-year old Defoe - who scored 11 goals in 19 appearances for TFC in 2014 - will be back at BMO Field in 2015.

"We're planning on him getting back," said the Toronto GM.

"The player has never indicated that he doesn't want to be here. There is a community around him that has indicated in various ways that they can be here or elsewhere, but, from him, no."

Despite Bezbatchenko's defiance, he did indicate that Defoe could be sold in January if the right amount of money was offered.

"If someone comes and there's an offer, we'll consider it," he added.

"We're planning to have him on our team, but we have contingencies."

Defoe scored in eight of his appearances for Toronto including three braces which all came in victories for the Eastern Conference side.
