QPR influence forces Premier League to hold fan event in India

QPR and the Barclays Premier League are set to venture into the Indian football market.

The London club have been working in Mumbai for five years and their influence has prompted the Premier League to hold an international fan event on December 13 and 14.

The R's set up the Mumbai Soccer Challenge initiative in a bid for their India-based coaches to identify local talent and it is now paying dividends with England's top flight getting onboard.

QPR's vice-chairman Amit Bhatia said: "We are the pioneers in breaking new ground in India and it gives me a great sense of pride when I see the impact QPR's work is having in Mumbai, in particular.

"Prior to our involvement in the Mumbai Soccer Challenger, children from municipal schools rarely got a platform to compete in tournaments thereby depriving them an opportunity to showcase their skills."
