QPR director: FA handled Terry-Ferdinand incident terribly

QPR's director of football Les Ferdinand has claimed that racism is deeply rooted in the English football and the FA handled the John Terry-Anton Ferdinand case terribly in 2011.

Ferdinand made these comments in a Channel 4 documentary on race by Sir Trevor Phillips which will be screened on Thursday.

Asked by Phillips what he thought of the incident involving his cousin Anton and Chelsea skipper Terry, Ferdinand said: "I suppose it was disbelief really, that the England captain would use language like that on a football field, or anywhere in fact."

He added: "I think it's a situation that could have been put to bed quite quickly. And when you look at the game and the disproportion of black coaches in the game, maybe they're not actually saying what John Terry said, but are they thinking it? Because I have to believe that."

As a repercussion of the incident, Terry was banned for four matches, fined £220,000 and was stripped of the England captaincy.
