Real Madrid assistant coach Paul Clement was top of QPR's shortlist of managerial candidates, it has been revealed.
It was claimed Tim Sherwood, now in charge of Aston Villa, was the priority target for Rs chairman Tony Fernandes.
But the People says Clement was the man Fernandes wanted.
However, former Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain coach Clement, 43, decided to stay at the Bernabeu where he works alongside former Stamford Bridge boss Carlo Ancelotti.
If QPR avoid the drop under Chris Ramsey, who has been put in charge until the end of the season, Fernandes may decide to revisit Clement.
