QPR boss Redknapp slams FFP: Biased towards big clubs

QPR boss Harry Redknapp has hit out at Financial Fair Play. On Sunday Redknapp's side will face a Manchester United team including Angel Di María and Radamel Falcao after a summer rebuilding programme costing more than £150 million financed by their vast commercial revenues.

By contrast, Rangers' net spend on transfers during the last window was about £20 million, reinforcing the manager's view that FFP will help kill off competition within the league.

"To make it fair play we should be able to spend as much as Manchester United spent before we play them on Sunday," said Redknapp. "That would be fair. What is fair play?

"One team can spend £200 million on their team and another eight or 10 million. That's not fair play. Fair play would be everybody having a maximum of £30m or whatever to spend on their team and having to bring some players out of their youth team.

"You have seven teams at the top on another planet to the rest of us. We have brought a few players in. We have lost Loïc Rémy but spent £15-20 million above the Rémy money so it's a fantastic effort by the owners to try to give us a club that will compete in the league.

"But it's never going to be a fair playing field because you haven't got to be a genius to know the top seven from last season will be the top seven this season as well. It can almost get a bit boring but that's how it is going to be. Everton upwards will be the top seven I'm pretty sure of that." He added: "They don't necessarily have the best managers they have the best players because they can afford to buy them.

"You can take Sean Dyche from Burnley and let him manage one of the top six or seven teams and they will still be in the top six or seven this year and you take the manager of the team he takes the place of and if they stay up they will have done very well."
