QPR boss Harry Redknapp says Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has been as good as ever this season.

Redknapp brought Ferdinand through at West Ham United.

Redknapp said: "Rio losing a yard of pace still makes him as quick as any centre half in the country.

"He's been a top player since he was 17, and if Alex thinks he's lost a yard, then that just brings him closer to the next quickest centre half in the country.

"I don't think Fergie's too bothered Rio's not playing for England - it just keeps him fit for United instead."
