QPR boss Hughes: Stoke winner gave us fresh inspiration

QPR boss Mark Hughes admits their winner against Stoke City has transformed the spirit around the club.

The Hoops took until the 89th minute to find a winner against Stoke, which was followed almost immediately by West Brom cancelling a two-goal deficit to snatch a draw at Bolton.

The change in fortunes was met by euphonic scenes in W12 and Hughes believes it could prove a catalyst to success at the Etihad Stadium.

Asked if QPR would have been all but down had things stayed as they were minutes earlier, Hughes said: "Well, yeah, you would have to say so if we are honest.

"We would still given it our best shot [at City] but I just think the momentum and belief we got from that latter stages of that game will help us.

"There is no apprehension in terms of what we face, we're just looking forward to the challenge and making sure we give a good account of ourselves.

"It was massive a result for us. We knew we had to win that game.

"That was the key and we had looked at that game for many, many weeks before and realised that would be a really significant fixture for us.

"We needed maximum points - a draw wouldn't have been enough - so to get that under the circumstances at such a late stage of the game was huge.

"There was a real outpouring of emotion from everybody - myself included. It was a great moment and great to be part of.

"Sometimes you look at things and think there was a reason behind it happening so we hope that is the case and that the chance we have been given we're able to exploit."
