Puyol gives Fabregas vote of confidence for Barcelona move

Barcelona captain Carles Puyol has stated Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas is welcome to join him at Camp Nou. The Gunners skipper has been at the centre of discussions regarding a move back to the club he joined as a child this summer, with the Catalan club's interest not appearing to wane despite Arsene Wenger's reluctance to part with him.

Puyol, who himself was a product of Barcelona's famous youth academy, has been training with the 23-year-old on Spain duty ahead of their World Cup campaign and insisted that he would love him to join the Primera Liga champions, but didn't want it to distract him from his international preparations.

"Cesc is an excellent player and a great friend. For me, he would be perfect for Barcelona," said Puyol.

"I would love to see him with the azulgrana, but we need to respect that he has a contract with his club.

"It's very unusual to see Cesc nervous, but all this is a little problematic for him.

"It's a matter that is being talked about daily and he has fans, a coach and team-mates that he needs to respect."
