PSV Eindhoven striker Ola Toivonen has confirmed Liverpool failed to sign him in the summer.
In conversation with Voetbal International, Toivonen admitted he was tempted by the offer, but in the end was pleased PSV turned down the Reds.
"PSV saw me as a major player," he said. "On the other hand, we're talking about Liverpool, a great club and a step higher.
"There were several reasons not to do so. Preseason was over, all places were decided.
"If you switch from a minor league to the biggest in the world, in any case it is better to prepare for the experience with a full preseason."
