PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaïfi claims they beat Barcelona to the signing of David Luiz.
Chelsea have been praised for convincing PSG to part with £50 million for the Brazil international.
"The coach (Laurent Blanc) really wanted to have this player.
"We decided to pick him before the World Cup because we knew that Barcelona also was negotiating with Chelsea," Al-Khelaïfi recalled.
"Alex (now with AC Milan) also often struggled with injuries; he could not play two, three games in a span of eight days. Therefore this is a good choice."
