French sources claim Wenger, who often appears as a TV guest on Arab channel Al Jazeera, maintains regular contact with the entourage of PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

RMC Sport claims the recent downturn in domestic results for Carlo Ancelotti's Ligue 1 leaders has reinforced Al-Khelaifi's belief that a homegrown manager would be best placed to take the club forward.

A source told the outlet: "A French coach could help the club in terms of popularity. That is one aspect the owner sees as very important."
