Paris Saint-Germain were quietly hoping Mauricio Pochettino would be appointed Manchester United manager.
The French club are very close to sacking Pochettino, as they narrow in on their selection of the next head coach.
According to the Daily Star, PSG will now have to pay the Argentine boss a significant departure fee.
Pochettino is entitled to the pay from the remainder of his contract.
The source claims that PSG were hoping United would make a move for Pochettino at the end of this season, which would have saved them a lot of money.
However, United chose Erik ten Hag from Ajax, deciding against hiring Pochettino despite their longstanding interest in the 50-year-old coach.
