Preview: Arsenal vs Manchester United - team news, lineups

Arsenal breathed life back into their top four ambitions with a shocking 4-2 win over Chelsea last saturday.

Now with just 18 points left to play for before the end of the season, The Gunners will be looking to go on an end-of-season run in a bid to secure Champions League football next season.

However, while the win against Chelsea may have given Arsenal new-found hope of making it into the top four - the Gunners have to first overcome fellow top-four aspirants Manchester United on Saturday, in what is sure to be a thrilling encounter at The Emirates Stadium.

Match Preview

Arsenal

Prior to Wednesday's game against the Blues, Arsenal found themselves on a three-game losing streak with losses against Brighton, Crystal Palace and Southampton.

A brace from Eddie Nketiah and goals from Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka put an end to that losing streak and reignited the Gunners' top-four hopes overnight.

Now, following the win against Chelsea, the Gunners will be looking to stomp Manchester United to propel themselves into 4th place.

Arsenal currently sit level on points with 4th-placed Tottenham (57), with the only thing separating the London rivals being goal difference.

However, if Arsenal manage to pull off a strong run of form in the six remaining games of the season - then Mikel Arteta's men may just be playing Champions League football next term - at Tottenham and Manchester United's expense.

Manchester United

Despite the plethora of world-class talent in their side which includes Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane, Paul Pogba and of course Cristiano Ronaldo - Manchester United have struggled to maintain a good run of form this season - a fact that may put them out of contention for next season's Champions League trophy.

It's worth noting that the Red-Devils are only three points behind Arsenal and Tottenham, both of whom are currently level on points (57).

However, despite being just three points away from 4th-place, United has played one more game than both Spurs and Arsenal this season - meaning Ralf Ragnick's men cannot realistically afford to drop any more points up until the end of the season.

In other words, a loss against Arsenal on Saturday would derail United's goal of making it into the Champions League.

With that said, Manchester United will be looking to bounce back from their recent 4-0 drubbing against Liverpool and put up a world-class showing against Arsenal in a bid to keep their top four hopes alive.

Team News

Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey remain out of contention for Arsenal, while Takehiro Tomiyasu is set to return to the side after being sidelined for two months due to injury.

Outside of Tierney and Partey, Arteta has a full squad to choose from going into Saturday's tie.

Manchester United on the other hand will be without Paul Pogba on Saturday as the Frenchman suffered a calf injury in United's loss against Liverpool.

Pogba joins Luke Shaw, Fred and Cavani on the sidelines - all of whom are also out of contention due to injury problems.

It's also worth noting that Cristiano Ronaldo may feature against Arsenal.

He was understandably absent against Liverpool after the tragic death of his newborn child - however, the United frontman is now back in training and appears set to feature against the Gunners

Arsenal possible starting lineup:

Ramsdale; White, Holding, Gabriel, Tavares - Xhaka, Elneny - Saka, Odegaard, Smith Rowe - Nketiah

Manchester United possible starting lineup:

De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Lindelof, Telles - Matic, McTominay - Elanga, Fernandes, Sancho - Ronaldo

Prediction

Both sides need a win here to keep their top four hopes alive - hence we're sure to see some goals in this game - however, considering Arsenal's performance against Chelsea on Wednesday - The Gunners appear to be the stronger side going into this tie - hence we're predicting a 2-1 win for Arsenal.
