Preston chairman doesn't see Jewell joining

Preston North End's supporters' desire to see Paul Jewell installed at Deepdale is deeply unrealistic, according to the Championship club's chairman Derek Shaw.

North End dismissed manager Paul Simpson on Tuesday after a disappointing start to the season, particularly on the road, and some fans have voiced their desire to see Jewell handed the reins.

"I don't want lots of speculation," Shaw said in the Wigan Post.

"I keep reading about Paul Jewell. But when he takes another job it will be in The Premier League. Or it will be an exceptionally wealthy Championship club.

"Paul has had a taste of it and, while I don't want to disappoint any fans, I don't think Preston North End would get Paul Jewell.

"The type of wages that Paul would command nowadays, because he has proved himself at a higher level, would be too much for us.

"I am sure that he will crop up again back in The Premier League."
