PREMIERSHIP WRAP: Tottenham enter top four, but Liverpool keep up the pressure and Sunderland still remain winless

Tottenham held on for a 2-1 home win over Everton whilst Liverpool triumphed by the same score against Blackburn Rovers at Anfield. Spurs scored twice in the first half and then found themselves fighting a rearguard action in the second half.

Roman Pavlyuchenko scored his sixth goal in four games when he netted the opener then Luka Modric doubled the lead with a fine second.

Bit the visitor's surged back in the second half and Spurs were left clinging on for three points after Ayegbeni Yakubu had pulled a goal back.

Landon Donovan then contrived to miss an open goal for the Toffees.

Liverpool kept the pressure on Spurs with a 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers.

An ill tempered affair stretched Liverpool who never looked comfortable against Rovers physical approach, and boss Sam Allardyce will be disappointed not to take a point back to Ewood Park.

Fernando Torres marked his first start since January 13 by scoring the winner a minute before the break.

The Reds had gone ahead midway through the half through Steven Gerrard only for Jamie Carragher's handball to allow Keith Andrews to equalise from the penalty spot five minutes before the interval.

The Reds are now in sixth place, just a point behind Tottenham and Manchester City.

Fine goalkeeping by Mark Schwarzer ensured Fulham's unbeaten run in all competitions was extended to eight games with a scoreless draw at hapless Sunderland.

Opposite number Craig Gordon did not have a single save of note to make as the sides fought out a stalemate which leaves the Black Cats without a league win in 14 attempts and just three points clear of the drop zone.
