PREMIER LEAGUE: West Brom leave it late to shoot down wasteful Liverpool

West Bromwich Albion have made it two wins in a row over Liverpool at Anfield with a 2-0 result on Merseyside tonight.

Late goals from Gareth McAuley and Romelu Lukaku gave the Baggies their fourth win from their past five Premier League outings against the Reds, allowing Steve Clarke's men to move up to eighth on the table, with Brendan Rodgers' side falling to ninth.

Baggies goalkeeper Ben Foster was the hero for his side, saving a penalty from Reds skipper Steven Gerrard with just under 15 minutes remaining, but the home team only had themselves to blame with a number of erroneous efforts on goal abating to nothing.

McAuley, who incidentally scored his only goal of the season against Everton, gave Albion the lead with nine minutes remaining when he headed home Chris Brunt's corner with just their second attempt on goal for the night before substitute Lukaku netted his 10th of the campaign as 90 minutes ticked over following a break from their own defensive end.

It was just the second time in 30 league outings that West Brom had kept a clean sheet which ended a run of 12 goals in three games at home for Liverpool.
